My Favorite Season of the Year

November 30, 2010

Christmas is less than a hundred days away. I can hear the radios playing christmas songs. The air reeks of christmas. Christmas carolers are already visible, knocking on houses to do their number. And you don’t just see kids. These are adults who in the spirit of christmas want also to partake a seasonal opportunity to earn.

I feel aching happiness everytime the year enters the ‘ber months. I feel nostalgia, almost magical and this is coming from someone who just turned 30. It’s maybe because the world suddenly becomes kind during this time of year. People are giving gifts to the poor, to loved ones, forgiving those who hurt us and asking forgiveness from those we offended and inflicted pain. Families and friends gather around a tableful of foods and festivities just spending time with each other.

If you live faraway from your place, you would want to go home to spend the holidays with the family. The same if you are working abroad. Local calls and international calls placed during the yuletide season are the highest to the extent of crushing Smart and Globe communication service server. Not just that. Shopping, even to the ones who don’t very much like the idea, unexpectedly becomes palatable. And we make resolutions we know we won’t fulfill.

This is why christmas is my favorite season of the year, second to my birthday. It’s funny how the world teems with love in a quarter of the year. We go round lovestruck as if we had been conk on the head with a frying pan. And suddenly, the world becomes a better place to live.
